Thank you for your interest in the research internship available in Dr. Brookman-Frazee’s research lab! Below are some details about Dr. Brookman-Frazee’s research lab and projects.
Lab Description:
The Brookman-Frazee Lab is located at the Child and Adolescent Services Research Center (CASRC), which is a consortium of over 100 investigators and staff from multiple research organizations in Southern California conducting cutting edge research focused on improving health and developmental services for children and families. Dr. Lauren Brookman-Frazee has several projects running at CASRC. They range from an observational study examining the long-term use of multiple evidence-based interventions for children receiving mental health care (4KEEPS) to an implementation study testing ways to support teachers and therapists in their learning and delivery of treatments for Autism Spectrum Disorder (TEAMS). Interns in our lab may work on tasks for more than one study, but will likely be assigned to one study as their primary project.
Required Qualifications:
- 12 hours/week commitment for one year
- Registering for course credit (if current student) through UCSD PSYC/HDP 199 or PSYC 116, SDSU CFD/PSY 499, or USD PSYC 498
- Research methods course completion (or equivalent course)
- 3.5 GPA in Psychology-related coursework
Priority will be given to the following students:
- Will be a Junior or Senior in the upcoming Fall term
- 3.5 or above overall GPA
- Bilingual in Spanish
- Interest in mental health-related field
- Potentially able to work more than 12 hours/week
Tasks for an intern can include the following:
- Code audio- or video-recorded psychotherapy sessions (i.e., observational coding) or qualitative data (e.g., interviews with therapist participants)
- Attend didactic trainings/presentations remotely (e.g., Implementation Science Seminar, intern professional development series, Autism Seminar Series)
- Collect data from community mental health agencies or public schools (ability to do this task will be contingent on social distancing best practices at the time)
- Office/administrative support
- Conduct reviews of published articles related to the 4KEEPS and TEAMS Studies
- Attend research meetings virtually
