Grant Writing Course (GWC) | Interest Form

Thank you for your interest in the Health Sciences Grant Writing Course (GWC).

Participation in GWC requires a 9-session commitment over a 3-month period. This program is an intensive, instructor-led course based on structured, formative assessments using "The Grant Application Writer’s Workbook, NIH version."

The course is specific to NIH R-type or K-type grants, and to apply, you must be actively working on a research proposal.

Priority given to:

  • Salaried faculty >50%
  • Faculty writing K or R mechanism, or equivalent (i.e., Foundation grant)
  • Faculty at the assistant and associate ranks
  • Faculty never awarded an R01
  • Faculty with research training and actively engaged in research and able to provide a draft of the Specific Aims page at the time of application

Individuals who do not meet these criteria may still submit an interest form.

As a GWC participant, you will attend weekly sessions, participate in peer-to-peer group discussions, complete weekly homework assignments, and meet with a content expert for guidance – selected by you. Your final grant proposal will be reviewed by a mock study section comprised of senior professors in Health Sciences. To accomplish this, the course requires several hours per week of at-home work.

Because we have a limited capacity (~8 faculty/course), please complete the following interest form, and we will contact you regarding next steps once the application cycle for the year is open.

If you have any questions, please contact us: hsfacaffairs@ucsd.edu

We look forward to enhancing your skills in NIH grantsmanship and helping to increase the acceptance rate of your grant submissions.
